Public Peace Poles

What is a Peace Pole?

A Peace Pole is a hand-crafted monument that displays the message or prayer May Peace Prevail on Earth on each of its four sides in different languages of the world.   When you plant a Peace Pole in your community, you are linking with people all over the world who have planted Peace Poles in the same spirit of peace

Masahisa Goi began the Peace Pole movement in 1955 in Japan. The first Peace Poles outside Japan were constructed in 1983. Since then, more than 200,000 have been planted around the world in over 180 countries.

Since September 2013 the Rock River Region planted over 200 Peace Poles at schools, churches, organizations and private residences.  See the map below.

We are looking forward to dedicating more Peace Poles during Rockford’s Peace Month, held annually in September.

To apply for a $100 grant towards the purchase of an organization’s Peace Pole please request an application/organization form.  The Keeling family will donate $100 toward the cost of this Peace Pole. Organizations are responsible for raising the remainder of the cost (approx. $100)

Peace Pole orders and applications are accepted March through June each year.

For more information on how to order a Peace Pole please email mailto:Karen.Bieschke@aol.com or PamKeeling@gmail.com.

Peace poles from the citizens of the Rockford area have also been planted (as gifts) all around the US and the rest of the world:  Minnesota, Romania, France, Italy and Germany.
